Help me with scaling of preference

Been casually watching the market for a used catamaran over the past few months, and it's definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster. I'm not looking for anything too large, somewhere in the 38 to 42 ft range and ideally something that's been sailed regularly, not just sitting in a marina. Budget hmm...its modest, so I know I'll need to compromise somewhere, but I'm trying to figure out what matters most: layout, engine hours, rigging age, or electronics?

For that size, I'd focus on rigging and engine hours first, the layout's cool but you can tweak it later and electronics can be upgraded, so don't stress too much there.

Totally agree. Rigging and engine hours are the key factors for that size. Layout can always be adjusted, and electronics upgrades are pretty common, so no need to worry too much about those upfront

I had a similar discussion a couple of years ago when I was searching for a 40-footer. In the end, I decided that engine hours and rigging were most important. I found one that had some old electronics and a quirky galley layout, but it sailed really well, and I was able to make upgrades later on when I had the budget. It really makes a difference to focus on the core essentials first
