Noticed something odd...

I pulled my Lagoon 400 for a bottom job and found a patch of gelcoat blisters under the antifoul. Not terrible, but definitely noticeable and kind of frustrating. I've heard this can happen with a bad layup or if the barrier coat's not kept up.

Anyone experienced this already? Just want to see how common it really is.

Gelcoat blisters, while not ideal, are a pretty regular occurrence in the boating world. You're spot on about potential layup issues or a barrier coat getting neglected. Loads of us have dealt with them. Are they mostly small, or do you have some bigger ones?

Good thing it's nothing serious and you can fix it yourself. All you need to do is to grind them out, let the hull dry, fair it and reapply a solid barrier coat before antifoul. It is pretty frustrating i understand but it's fixable.

I experienced something similar on a friend's old Beneteau not too long ago. After we pulled it out of the water, we noticed a patch of small blisters. It wasn't anything major, but definitely a pain to deal with. We ground them out, let the area dry for a couple of weeks, and then applied a barrier coat before putting on the new bottom paint. It's a pretty common issue, but it's definitely easier to handle if you catch it early, just like you did.
